Death Of Osama Bin Laden - What If?
The Obama Administration has decided not to release photos of a dead Osama Bin Laden - for reasons that make sense to me. Even without the photographs, I believe the US administration when they tell the American people and the world that Osama bin Laden is dead and buried at sea. I do. All the information we are getting in dribs and drabs appears to confirm that. But let's just play "What If" for a moment.
WHAT IF - the US felt that Osama bin Laden was a treasure trove of critically important information. He could tell them about Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations around the world. He could reveal who in Pakistan knew and elsewhere assisted in hiding him for the last 10 years.
WHAT IF - they planned to get this information out of him by any means necessary - including torture. And WHAT IF the Obama administration did not want to be associated with such activity - both for political reasons at home and for supposedly moral reasons internationally.
AND WHAT IF - the administration knew that if Muslim terrorist organizations knew that OBL was alive they would try and rescue him or ransom his release by taking Americans hostage as bargaining chips - or at the very least putting Americans in harm's way around the world.
So, to achieve ALL of these goals WHAT IF a plan was conceived to:
a) Take bin Laden alive if possible, say by using tranquilizer darts; and
b) Take his body to some specially prepared remote location; and
c) Extract all possible information from him by any means necessary; and
d) Finally kill him and dispose of his body over some expanse of ocean.
Result? bin Laden is still dead to the world and US intelligence takes some giant steps forward on Al Qaeda and other world terrorist organizations. Sounds pretty good to me. Especially the torture part. Ah, I mean the "intelligence" part.
But of course what I just presented IS fantasy. I mean the US administration and intelligence community wouldn't lie to the American people. Would they!
