Where has all the logic gone? - 2009-06-1
When I watched reruns of the original Star Trek series I always associated more with Spock than with any other of the characters. His logic appealed to me as a very desirable attribute.
Today I look out at some of the goings on in the world today, and I wonder...what happened to logic?
Where is the logic in putting our nations in horrendous debt in order to bail out the greedy Wall Street and Canary Wharf types that got us into this mess?
Where is the logic in bailing out General Motors and Chrysler, (two long time losing companies), in order to save the jobs of their employees...but yet there is no comparable bailout for the tens of thousands of mechanics, and sales staff that will be unemployed by Chrysler and GM terminating their relationship with thousands of car dealerships.
Where is the logic in allowing poor, hard working people to lose their homes and life savings, while allowing those responsible to receive multi million dollar bonuses?
Where is the logic in espousing the virtues of capitalism and the self-balancing free market system as hallmarks of our society, and then immediately ignore these principals when we face precarious times.
I guess Spock was right...We humans have a long way to go.
