Unemployment
I am truly perplexed. The major problem in the U.S. and elsewhere is unemployment right? Jobs. Jobs. Jobs. That is what is wrong with the economy.
I mean there are plenty of other problems like a collapsed real estate market, a huge budget deficit and a national debt - but unemployment I believe is THE number 1 problem.
The US administration says it is doing what it can to foster employment growth. President Obama, and others have all proposed job creation programs. The Obama administration is asking Congress to pass a $447 billion job-creation package.
But with a hundred thousand (100,000) troops coming or already home from Iraq some or all of these troops will be leaving the military and looking for jobs. In addition the federal government is laying off civilian defense workers, postal workers and other federal employees. Isn’t this taking a half step forward with their job creation programs, while at the same time taking two steps back with all of these layoffs.
Isn’t it more cost efficient to keep an employee than to have the government create a new job.
Does this make sense to lay off government employees so that they go off the federal government payroll only to have them claim unemployment insurance which is just another pocket of the federal coffers and add to the 9% already unemployed.
I mean really guys! Who is looking at the big picture here. You don’t reboot an economy by throwing more people into the lineup of those looking for work and collecting unemployment benefits.
If this is the admininstration’s job creation plan no wonder Americans are disenchanted with their government.
